Parry Romberg syndrome.

Fig. 2 : Parry Romberg patient showing scarring alopecia of the scalp. A 25 year old female presented with progressive atrophy of the left side of the face for the past 15 years. Lesions started on the scalp and forehead and extended to the entire half of the face. There was no history of convulsions, language problems. There was no family history of similar complaints. On examination there was atrophy of the epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissues at the affected site along with atrophy of the bony prominences and also deviation of the tongue and nose to the affected side due to atrophy (Figure 1). There was also scarring alopecia on the affected side (Figure 2). Examination of the eye revealed no involvement. Routine blood and urine examination revealed no abnormalities. Chest X-ray and CT scan of the head showed no abnormalities. Blood work up for any autoimmune disease revealed no abnormalities.
